Judge rocked a double to left and Chisholm followed up with a walk, and the House That Jeter Built was once again rocking. But Treinen got Stanton to fly out and struck out Anthony Rizzo, stranding Judge and Chisholm and stymying what ended up being the Yankees’ best shot at getting back in the game.
The runs were all scored off reliever Luke Weaver, the Yankees’ closer who had pitched remarkably throughout October. Inheriting a bases-loaded, no-out jam, Weaver gave up the tying and eventual winning run on the sacrifice flies, which were sandwiched around a catcher’s interference that allowed superstar Shohei Ohtani to reach base.

This has been a Fall Classic that lives up to that name. In Game 6, with ace-type arms on the hill in the form of the Astros’ Framber Valdez and the Phillies’ Zack Wheeler, we’ll see if Philly can take it to the Game 7 this Series seems to deserve or if Houston can finally bring it home.
• Only five Game 7s, and the 1912 Game 8, have gone into extra innings — five times in the World Series and once in the ALCS (the Aaron Boone game in 2003). The home team has won five out of six times when Game 7 goes beyond the requisite nine innings. The lone road victory came in the finale to the 2016 World Series, when the Cubs beat Cleveland, 8-7, to clinch the title. The home-team wins have provided some memorable Game 7 walk-offs.
Game 2 world series
After the dramatics of the first game of the World Series, Saturday’s contest was far more straightforward—that is, until the top of the ninth inning (more on that in a bit). Los Angeles Dodgers hitters jumped on New York Yankees starter Carlos Rodón. The lefty gave up three home runs—including back-to-back jacks to Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman—and he was chased out of the game in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto had one of his best outings of the year, and the final score was Los Angeles 4, New York 2. The win puts the Dodgers up 2–0 in the series.
The play Ohtani was injured was just kind of a freak thing. The man stole 59 bases this season and he played in all 162 games and every playoff game. As it is, he probably dislocated his shoulder but I believe it’s been popped back into place and that he will be right back in the lineup tonight for the Dodgers. I could be wrong, but he hasn’t been ruled out for sure. It would be interesting to see Ohtani in batting practice to see how he’s swinging.
Dodgers outfielder Tommy Edman just hit a solo home run off Carlos Rodón into the left-field stands. The Yankees starter rebounded with no further damage and made a nice play off the mound to end the inning.
