Instead of using the same lineup they employed against Flaherty in Game 1, the Yankees will go with their Game 4 lineup, which produced 11 runs and featured Jazz Chisholm Jr. at cleanup, one spot ahead of Giancarlo Stanton.

“I’ve definitely got to step up, and I’ve got to do my job,” Judge said. “Guys around me are doing their jobs, getting on base, and I’m failing at backing them up. We’ve got to turn it around in Game 3.”
Game 4 world series
Yankees: The eighth-inning rally in Game 4 was significant because it saved Luke Weaver (21 pitches) from having to return to the mound for the ninth, keeping him available for Game 5. Other relievers to appear in Game 4 were Tim Hill (five pitches), Clay Holmes (13 pitches), Mark Leiter Jr. (18 pitches) and Tim Mayza (15 pitches).
When Buehler struck out Verdugo to end the game, the Dodgers poured onto the field to celebrate between the mound and first base, capping a season in which they led the big leagues with 98 wins. With several thousand Dodgers fans remaining in a mostly empty stadium, baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred presented the trophy on a platform quickly erected over second base.
Yankees reliever Mark Leiter Jr. struck out Shohei Ohtani on a 3-2 splitter with one out in the seventh and a runner on second. The moment helped preserve a 6-4 lead before the Yankees broke open the game late.
Against Cole, the Dodgers will roll out the same nine players they did in Game 1 and have throughout most of the World Series. The only change for Game 5 is in the bottom third of the lineup, where Tommy Edman has been bumped up to seventh and is followed by Will Smith and Gavin Lux.
Luis Gil stepped in earlier this season when Gerrit Cole started the season on the IL and pitched as well as anyone in the American League. He finished the season with a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.193. Most concerningly though for the Yankees is that he led the AL with 77 walks, which may be problematic for a patient Dodgers lineup.
Of the 41 teams to fall behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven postseason series, the Yankees are only the 10th to even avoid a sweep. Of the previous nine to do so, four managed to force a Game 6 and two forced a Game 7, although neither example occurred in the World Series. One was the 2020 Astros, who lost Game 7 to the Rays in the ALCS, and one was the 2004 Red Sox, who famously came back to the beat the Yankees in the ALCS. The Yankees are the first team to force a Game 5 when down 3-0 in a World Series since the Reds in 1970 against the Orioles.
